The Ferguson trial results and policing of the protests there greatly remind me of part of the lyrics of "American Woman":
I don't need your war machines
I don't need your ghetto scenes
The stark reality is that America, or at least a large part of it, is essentially a police state with a lot of impoverished and/or blatantly oppressed people. Cops don't need to have war machines, but they do. People don't need to be treated as second-class citizens, but a lot of them are. But for a lot of the privileged, as long as they don't see it they think it will go away.
I fully expect history to repeat itself, a la 1969. America is reaching its breaking point once more. And Ferguson was just the tip of the iceberg.
