A Martian girl prepares for the yearly lantern festival, which starts at sundown (it is sundown now, and Mars's two moons are rising). The outfits worn at the festival almost always have a landscape printed on them. This girl's outfit shows a Martian sunset/sunrise and the two moons. The celebration itself is centered around the idea that darkness will pass and light will prevail; a general metaphor for good triumphing over evil and life and love surviving bodily death. The holiday takes place in the Martian summer, during the longest day of the year. The outdoor festival activities include special kinds of food, plays and shows, and vendors from afar with all sorts of goodies.
